Richard III (1483-5), type 3, groat, 2.85g., London, crowned bust facing, RICARD DI GRA REX ANGL Z FRANC, rev. long cross pattee, saltire stops, m.m. sun and rose 2/sun and rose 3 (N.1679; S.2157), an excellent example, deeply toned, good very fine, a rare mintmark combination Estimate £ 1,200-1,500Mintmark sun and rose 3, with only four rays to the sun and a distinctive flat bottomed petal at 6 o´clock, is rare, and is usually found on coins struck on a small thick flan. Only one other example of a Richard III groat with the mule marks sun and rose 2/3 appears to survive
