A Piper´s Plaid Brooch of the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders An unusual brooch, by R & HB KIRKWOOD / EDINBURGH, the nickel-plated quoit of 3in. diameter, bearing four bosses and Celtic style decoration in low relief, with the Princess´s coronet and reversed cypher of Princess Louise, the reverse stamped with maker´s name See illustration Estimate £ 70-100The absence of the customary Cat and Boar´s Head ornaments, and the four-part scroll, from this brooch is believed to indicate that it is of the pattern worn by pipers of the 1st Battalion immediately after the amalgamation of the 91st and 93rd Highlanders in 1881.
