HONOURS AND AWARDS BESTOWED UPON DR. ANTOINE MARIA DE BETTENCOURT RODRIGUES (1854-1933) Dr Bettencourt Rodrigues, born in St. Nicolas, Cape Verde, 6.3.1854, practiced medicine in France, Portugal and Brazil, member of the Faculté de Médecine de Paris, the Academia Real de Ciências de Lisboa and the Instituto Pasteur de S. Paulo. He served as Portuguese Ambassador in Paris (1913-15), represented his country at the Paris Peace Conference after the Great War, and served as Portuguese Minister of Foreign Affairs from 1926. Portugal, Royal Academy of Science, Lisbon, silver-gilt Collar and Badge, the Collar of 24 links, each in the form of a laurel wreath, total length approx. 80cm., two links detached but present, the Badge a multi-rayed star of eight points with a central medallion depicting Minerva scattering laurel wreaths, 65mm., extremely fine, very rare (2) Estimate £ 300-500Offered with République Française Diplôme de Docteur en Médecine granted to Dr Bettencourt Rodrigues on 21.4.1886, signed by the V. Recteur de l´Académie de Paris 12.5.1886, with official seal of the Ministére de l´Instruction Publique á Paris attached, the parchment document aprox. 50.5. x 30.5cm., with numerous notes, affidavits and revenue stamps, from Lisbon, Sao Paolo and Rio-de-Janeiro, on the reverse.
