A Victorian Officer´s Plaid Brooch of the 74th Highlanders An extremely fine example, the silver quoit (HM Edinburgh 1867) mounted with a central ornament in pale quartz or facetted glass, and engraved with thistle wreath, ASSAYE, SERINGAPATAM, eleven Peninsula War honours and LXXIV, the reverse inscribed L.H.S. 74th Hldrs See illustration Estimate £ 400-500The initials L.H.S. are those of Lambart Hugh Skene, commissioned 1868, Lieutenant 1871 and Captain 1880. On the amalgamation of the 74th with the 71st Highlanders in 1881, he transferred to the Hampshire Regiment.
