Indian Mutiny 1857-58, no clasp (Asst. Surgn. T. J. Orton, 13th Bde. R. Art.), very fine Estimate £ 250-280Brigade Surgeon Thomas Jerram Orton, born 1830, in Beeston, Nottinghamshire; Acting Assistant Surgeon Staff 1855; posted Assistant Surgeon to the Royal Artillery later that year, with whom he served in the Trenches before Sebastopol and at the assault on the Redan (entitled to Crimea Medal, one clasp and Turkish Crimea); served in Central India Field Force under Sir Hugh Rose (1858) and was present at the siege and capture of the Fort of Chandairee, siege and capture of Jhansi, battle of the Betwa, actions at Koonch, Golowlie and Calpee and also various actions in the Bundlekund district; Surgeon Staff 1867; accompanied the Perak Expedition as Principal Medical Officer of the force (Mentioned in Despatches); retired Honorary rank of Brigade Surgeon 1885. Published transcription of roll states he was entitled to Central India clasp.
