Price, Midshipman.), suspension slack, minor edge bruise, otherwise good very fine, with tool for plotting ship´s course Estimate £ 2,200-2,600Provenance Glendining, 12.9.1937 Samuel Price served as Midshipman in H.M.S. Theseus at the destruction of French shipping in the Basque Roads, 12.04.1809 Captain Samuel Price (1793-1852), eldest son of Colonel Barrington Price and Lady Maria Lyon Bowes, and grand-nephew and godson of Admiral the Hon. Samuel Barrington, the 4th son of Viscount Barrington, entered the Navy 1803 as First Class Volunteer in H.M.S. Virginie, at the age of 10 years and 9 months; served in the North Sea and on the Halifax and Home stations; while in H.M.S. Theseus (Captain J.P. Beresford) he served in her boats in the capacity of Midshipman in two attempts to destroy a French 80-gun ship moored under the batteries in Vigo harbour and in the ship´s boats he was frequently engaged in affairs under the enemy´s batteries along the French coast; as Midshipman was present at the destruction of the French shipping in the Basque Roads 1809, and in the same year was present in the operations connnected with the expedition to Walcheren; Lieutenant 1812 in H.M.S. Edinburgh, and at the end of 1813 he assisted at the capture of a convoy and destruction of the enemy´s batteries at Port d´Anzo, and the attack on Leghorn; served in H.M.S. Bacchante off the coast of North America 1814; Commander 1815; Captain 1831 and placed on the retired list 1851.
