A group of Maps of Franco-Prussian War Battles A linen-backed map, numbered 6A, approximately 63cm x 63cm, entitled battle of gravelotte-st privat. position of the contending armies about 5p.m., 1:25,000 scale, the top left corner inscribed Franco-Prussian War 1870-71 (German Official Account), the bottom left corner inscribed Litho´d at the Topl. Depot, Horse Guards, War Office, Major CW Wilson RE, Director, overprinted to show French formations in red, facing West, and German forces, facing East, in blue; a companion map, marked 6B, to same scale etc, showing the situation at 7pm the same day; another linen-backed map, marked 5A and dated 1905, to the same scale and of similar size to previous items, entitled vionville-mars la tour, position of contending forces at noon, the bottom right-hand corner inscribed Weller & Graham Ltd, London, also showing French troops in red and Germans in blue; a companion map, 5B, as for previous item, showing the situation between 4 and 5pm; a French linen-backed map, approximately 42cm x 42cm, 1:50,000 scale, entitled bataille de pont-noyelles (Vers 1heure et demie), overprinted in monochrome to show opposing forces; and a fragment of another linen-backed 1:25,000 map, lacking all marginal information, but presumably showing part of Alsace-Lorraine (all place-names are German), overprinted in red and blue to depict the French forces opposing the German Vth and XIth Corps between Froeschwiller and Eberbach (a few with marbled covers, the majority without) (6) Estimate £ 120-180
