Henry, Earl of Northumberland (1136-52), Scottish borders, Penny, 1.42g., Bamborough (?); Willelm, large crowned bust right holding sceptre, N.ENCI:CON, rev. cross crosslet, cross pattee suspended from crescent in each angle, [WI]LEL:M:ONCI:B: (RPM 289; SCBI 12, no.291 (same obv. die); Bruun 239 (same dies); N.914; S.1311; [S.5013 (Scottish)]), an excellent example, weakly struck on parts of legend, otherwise well centred on a neat round flan, with a clear and attractive portrait, very fine, extremely rare thus Estimate £ 3,000-4,000The attribution of this very distinctive type to a mint at Bamborough remains uncertain
