BURMA The Chin Hills District Fort White 1942 (9 Nov.) envelope from N.W. Kelly to Edgar S. Hyde, I.S.C., "Additional Superintendent Lushai Hills, Aijal", bearing Postage 6p. bright blue and 1a. purple-brown sharing double-ring d.s. (only "te" legible though this can only be Fort White) and with triangular-framed censor cachet in violet alongside, arrival c.d.s. (10.11 and 19.11) on reverse; the envelope with a few small faults though thought to be the only example known from this office at this period. Photo Estimate £ 500-600 Note: The cover is accompanied by an original photograph of Edgar S. Hyde between Capt. Sharpe and Lt. Wunderlich (Captain and co-pilot) of the first U.S. "Flying Fortress" to bomb Burma, June 1942. The plane was hit and crash landed near the borders of the Chin Hills after the crew had bailed out. This photograph was taken by Maj. A.G. Mc.Call in the garden of Government House after the crew had walked 200 miles through the jungle to Aijal
