Lot: 831A

£1 brown-lilac, AD, an officially commissioned lithographed colour reproduction, printed by De La Rue using a ´block´ prepared for illustrating stamp albums or catalogues, on gummed wove paper, showing black handstruck “6 NOV 84” in margin at top; light diagonal crease in no way detracting from this attractive and extremely rare item. Note: The reason for the production of these somewhat crude likenesses is unclear although it has been suggested that it was related to an investigation into the possibility of forgery. Photocopies of associated pages from the original collection, which offer a more detailed explanation, are included. Photo Estimate £ 450-550
