JH, good to very large margins, on entire letter addressed to "Robert Stevenson Esq., Engineer for Northern Lighthouses, Edinburgh" fine light strike of the red Maltese Cross, the reverse with Stranraer and Edinburgh c.d.s's of 4 and 5 December 1840, the interior being a part printed monthly return (November 1840, the relevant details completed in manuscript) for the Mull of Galloway Lighthouse - fascinating content which includes the amount of oil used, weather conditions and staff reports. The addressee was responsible for designing and planning the construction of twenty lighthouses and is widely credited with introducing intermittent and flashing lights to the structures; fine and extremely attractive.
