Abbasid, al-Mustakfi (944-946), AV Dinar, 4.15g., Madinat es-Salam, AH334, naming heir Abu'l-Hassan Muhammad, rev. names amir al-Muzaffar Abu'l-Wafa beneath name of caliph (Album A264), slight wear in peripheral areas, otherwise about as struck, good extremely fine and of the highest rarity The coins of Caliph al-Mustakfi were only struck in AH333 and 334, his amir, al-Muzuffar Abu'l-Wafa (also called Tuzun) died on 23rd Muharram AH334 - only three weeks into the new year. Dinars naming this amir in conjuction with al-Mustakfi's heir, Abu'l Hassan, are known for both years, and Album gives them the highest rarity rating (RRR). Bearing in mind the limited time in which this coin could have been issued, it is believed that such dinars must even rarer with the date AH334. This coin was the subject of an article in Muenzen Revue, no.11, 1975, p574.
