France, Louis XIV, Écu à la cravate "du Parlement", first type, 1680 9 (Rennes), by F. Warin, cuirassed bust right with cravatte, small sun over head, rev. crowned arms, small tower over (Jean Bedard, 1673-92) (Ci.1873; Dav.3805; Dr.311; Dupl.1493), pleasantly toned within the details, the hair poorly struck up but a good portrait, light flecking in reverse field, no evidence of contact - almost as struck, an exceptional specimen, particularly scarce thus
