A Great War 1917 'Bullecourt' M.C. and Bar Group of Five to Major G. W. Meats, West Yorkshire Regiment Military Cross, G.V.R., with Second Award Bar; British War and Victory Medals (Capt. G.W. Meats.); 1939-45 Star; Defence Medal, good very fine, mounted as worn, together with related group of five miniature awards, mounted as worn, in Goldsmiths & Silversmiths Co. London, case, two West Yorkshire Regiment cap badges (one Officer's, one Other Rank's), two Great War period riband bars, a small quantity of documents, letters, press-cuttings, etc., many relating to Major Meat's wife Dorothy, née Carter, including Royal Air Force (W.R.A.F.) discharge certificate, dated 12.4.1919, and Royal Flying Corps cloth shoulder title (5) Estimate £ 1,500-2,000 M.C. London Gazette 5.7.1918, Lieutenant G. Meats, West Yorkshire Regiment Special Reserve, 'In an attack he assembled his company on difficult ground within 100 yards of the enemy trenches, and led his men with such dash into the hostile trenches that the enemy were completely surprised and a large number of prisoners were captured. He consolidated and held the captured ground in spite of an enemy counter-attack which threatened his position. He showed splendid leadership and courage.' (Bullecourt 20.11.1917)

'When the enemy rushed one of our bombing posts and drove it in, he at once organised a bombing party, and under heavy machine-gun fire got out of the trench and bombed the advancing enemy with such energy that they retired in disorder. His quick perception of the situation and prompt action were invaluable, and enabled the position to be speedily re-established.' (Bullecourt 12.12.1917) Major Guy Wilkinson Meats, M.C., 3rd Battalion, West Yorkshire Regiment, attached 7th (Pioneer) Battalion, York and Lancashire Regiment; Acting Captain 22.4.1918; Major Meats died in 1968.
