The Regimental Dinner Fund Book of the Royal Irish Regiment, A massive volume 93/4 in. x 81/2 in., the red leather cover bearing gold-tooled Crown above initials RI and inscription REGIMENTAL DINNER FUND, marbled endpapers, some 280 pages, the first 200 copiously mounted and interleaved with details of Regimental Dinners and other correspondence and documents, including several photographs Estimate £ 140-200 The book records the dinners of the Royal Irish Regiment which took place annually (with few exceptions) in London from 1879 onwards, listing the officers who subscribed and those who attended. The first dinner was held at the Criterion and cost 42s. per head: all subscribers paid 10/6d and those who actually dined paid a further £1. The book contains a yearly Statement of Accounts and, from 1905, a copy of the menu. For the year 1922, the book contains several letters, copied verbatim, and various newspaper articles, concerning the disbandment of the Royal Irish regiment, together with some photographs showing the final parade at Portsmouth and the laying up of the Colours in St. George's Hall, Windsor Castle. Dinners continued to be held in London, the last recorded one taking place in 1958.
