An Officer's Dirk of the 74th Highlanders An extremely fine Victorian example, the notched-back blade etched on one side with VR cypher, Thistle Star, ASSAYE, Elephant and LXXIV, and on the other with a Trophy and thirteen scrolls, inscribed with ASSAYE, SERINGAPATAM and eleven Peninsular War battle-honours, studded bog-oak grip with richly-gilt ferrule and pommel, both finely chased with Thistle decoration, in its black leather scabbard with gilt mounts in similar style, containing small knife and fork with pommels matching those of the dirk, in its velvet-lined leather-covered case (internal fittings of case slightly defective) Estimate £ 1,200-1,800
