Africa General Service 1902, E.VII.R., one clasp, Somaliland 1902-04 (Midsn. G.E.B. Carter, R.N., H.M.S. Hyacinth.), very fine Estimate £ 300-350 Lieutenant Gerald Carter R.N., Midshipman, H.M.S. Hyacinth, landed for the capture of the Mullah's stronghold at Illing 1904; Lieutenant December 1908; commanded H.M. Submarine C33 and was killed in action 4.8.1914 when C33, operating off the coast of Norfolk with the trawler Malta, was lost with all hands as she was returning to base for relief, probably on a mine near Smith's Knoll.
