Pair to Lieutenant Colonel C.T. Peyton, Durham Light Infantry, Late 10th Foot, Mentioned for Gallantry at Sunghie Ujong, Malay Peninsular India General Service 1854-95, one clasp, Perak (Lieut. C.T. Peyton. 1-10th Foot.); Egypt and Sudan 1882-89, undated, no clasp (Major 2/Durh.L.I.), contact marks, lacquered, otherwise very fine Estimate £ 500-600 Lieutenant Colonel Charles Talbot Peyton (1848-1913), born Roscommon, Ireland; Ensign 10th Foot, 1868; Lieutenant 1871; Captain 106th Regiment, 1877; Major 1881; Lieutenant-Colonel 1890; half-pay 1894; served in the Expedition into the Native State of Sunghie Ujong, Malay Peninsula, in 1874 and was present at the attack and capture of the Kapayam Stockades; at this action the Malays made two stockades and approached within 900 yards of our entrenchment at Sunghie Ujong. Lieutenant Hinxman of the 10th Regiment assumed the offensive early in the afternoon. There was a great deal of firing, and the Malays retreated into their stockades. The stockades were assaulted and taken at the point of the bayonet, Lieutenant Peyton being the first man in; also served during operations in the Native States of Sir Mananti and Teurachee, and was present at the action of Paroe mentioned for gallant conduct at the attack on Paroe on 7 December that year (Mentioned in Despatches 25.12.1875), and promoted in recognition of his services to Captain 106th Regiment; also complimented by His Royal Highness for conduct during the Perak Expedition (Military Secretary's letter dated Horseguards 15 February 1876); served with the Sudan Frontier Force 1885-6 and was present at the engagement at Ginnis.
