Wales Bord.); British War and Victory Medals (Capt), extremely fine (4) Estimate £ 1,800-2,000 M.C. London Gazette 22.9.1916 Lieutenant Francis Weldon Walshe, South Wales Borderers, Special Reserve 'For conspicuous gallantry in action. He led his company with great dash in the attack under very heavy machine-gun fire. On a previous occasion he did fine work under shell and machine-gun fire.' Captain Francis Weldon Walshe, M.C., South Wales Borderers; Second Lieutenant 12.1.1915; served in France from 26.11.1915; Lieutenant 10.1.1916, 3rd (Reserve) Battalion. Captain Walshe was killed in action 25.8.1916, while attached to the 1st Battalion South Wales Borderers, and is buried at Peake Wood Cemetry, Fricourt.
