Sellwood); 1939-45 Star; Atlantic Star; War Medal, extremely fine (4) Estimate £ 2,000-2,500 Bronze Polar Medal London Gazette 1.5.1934 Expedition - British, Australian, New Zealand Antarctic Research 1929-30 Clarence Henry Selwood P.O., R.N., born 1906; Assistant Steward "Discovery II" during the first Banzare Expedition led by Sir Douglas Moulson. 'Joined the National Union of Seamen on 19.7.1930, and later joined the Royal Navy in which he rose to the rate of Petty Officer. During the Second World War he served in one of the ships which was sunk during a battle with the German pocket battleship Graf Spee.('British Polar Exploration and Research' by Poulsom and Myres refers).
