Great Britain 1840 One Penny Black Plate 9 TB (double letter T), small to large margins, on entire letter from Spilsby to Sheffield dated 6 April 1841, tied by superb strike of the black Maltese Cross with additional strike alongside at left, the reverse with black Spilsby and red Sheffield double-arc datestamps; slightly split and strengthened clean filing fold well clear of the adhesive but in no way detracting from the stunning appearance. Opens-out perfectly for display. The application of a second strike of the Maltese Cross, on the address panel alongside the adhesive, is an often seen peculiarity of the Spilsby office at this time – this example being possibly the most attractive known.
