Sierra Leone,cut quarter Dollar, 7.16 g., countermarked (1832-4) with incuse crowned WR ( c.f.Pridmore, SNC 1966 pp.206-8; c.f.Vice FT.6, where this punch is classed as a modern forgery) , host coin fine, countermark very fine Estimate £ 60-80 Struck from the punch catalogued by David Vice as a modern forgery. However, the present cataloguer is not convinced and believes it might be an official coin. It is also hard to see that a forgery of a West African coin was made before 1920, by when it is thought this collection had been formed.
