Eadred (946-955), two-line type, Penny, 1.46g., HR4, North Western mint, Eardulf, eadred rex, rosette within inner circle, rev., eardvlf mot in two lines, rosette above and below, three rosettes between (N.716; S.1118), the obverse lightly double struck and surface slightly rough, very fine, the reverse extremely fine, an extremely rare type Estimate £ 600-800 provenance: Spink Numismatic Circular, October 1942, no.16364 £1-15-0 Only three moneyers, Dudi, Elfstan and Thurulf, are recorded for HR4 as a true type. Eardulf is hitherto known from a single circumscription cross/HR4 mule (BLS pl.14.222; N.711)
