Checker Cab Manufacturing Corp. (NJ). Certificate for 50 Shares Common Stock, June 30, 1931. No. C09481. Allegorical women flank a cab in an ornate frame, green. In the year they were organized, 1923, Checker's output was about 50 cabs a day. The company concentrated on the production of taxi cabs, but did offer a utility model that could convert from passenger car to a light utility truck. In the early 1930s, Checker produced a few off one-off custom cars, including a bullet-proof sedan for the Chicago electricity tsar Samuel Insull. Though Checker is perhaps best known for the once ubiquitous yellow cabs of New York City Scattered pinholes, otherwise Good Very Fine. Ex R.M. Smythe Auction, NY, April 12, 2007, lot 2511.
