The Mercantile Marine Service Association awarded this medal to Captain Samuel Roch (Born Kingstown, Ireland 1830, died Birkenhead 1888), Master of the West India and Pacific steamship SS Chilian for rescuing the crew of the Gloucester to New York-Bound Norwegian barque Amalthae, April 14, 1880.
