Ottoman Turkey. Turkish Crimea Medal. British issue: SERJT. JOHN COX. 38TH REGT. Engraved. Born in the parish of Halesowen, in the County of Salop, in 1820, John Cox was a puddler by trade. He enlisted in the 38th Foot at Wolverhampton in June 1842, serving for a total of 23 years, 14 of those years abroad - in Jamaica, North America, Turkey, Crimea and India. In the Crimean War, Cox fought in the battles of Alma, Inkerman and Sebastopol, and was wounded in the foot in the first attack on Redan. He was discharged at Delhi, the 26th of November 1864..
