Great Britain. South Africa Medal, 1834-1853. RICHD BOWLER, 43RD REGT). Impressed. Born near Reading, Private Richard Bowler served at the Cape of Good Hope for 2 ½ years and in India for over 6 years. He was awarded "the Kaffir War & Indian Mutiny Medals" and two Good Conduct Badges. He was twice tried by Courts Martial. He was discharged at Aldershot the 7th of October 1867 being "medically unfit for further service" (the result of "Secondary Syphilis). On ribbon. Rim bruise, toned over contact marks. Very Fine. Accompanied by a copy of his discharge papers.
