Costa Rica. Administration of the Province of Costa Rica. Safe Conduct Pass for the Transportation of Tobacco, 1790. 8 ¾ x 6 1/3". At a time when tobacco was used as currency, this pass permits Antonio Casada to travel from San Jose to Punta de Arenas with 10 hands of tobacco. Red ink and partially printed, crowned oval Arms within wreath above. "From Sandebal" in blue ink lower left. Notation in black on back signed by Nicholas Castro. Good Fine and Rare.
