Custer, George Armstrong. U.S. army officer and cavalry commander in the Civil War and the Indian Wars; killed with all his men at the Battle of Little Big Horn in 1876. Autograph Note and Receipt. 1) Custer's deposit slip at Thomas Polk & Co., Bankers, Elizabethtown, KY, March 4, 1873. On the back, Custer writes in ink that he mailed a check for $305 to Planters National Bank in Louisville Ky, and in pencil that he mailed a check for $79 to Sheldon & Co. On Sept. 3, 1871, Custer was assigned to command the post of 7th U.S. Cavalry and 4th Infantry at Elizabethtown, Kentucky largely to curb the activities of the Klu Klux Klan and deal with illegal distillers; 2) Handwritten receipt dated Nov. 16, 1873. In his hand, Custer writes in ink "Recd of Genl Custer $15.00 fifteen dollars for [unclear]". Very Good.
