Guillaume in Paris and N. Mequér in Lima named below, rev. Ten-line legend. Overstruck on an earlier coin or medal, snippets of the undertype visible. Set in the historic center the city, Lima's important Plaza Dos de Mayo was commissioned by the Peruvian government in the early 1870s to commemorate the May 2, 1866 Battle of Callao. Built over the previous square known as the Oval of the Queen, the square is dominated by a central monument constructed in France and reassembled in Peru between 1873 and 1874. Toned.
