LIVERTAD DE LAS PROVINCIAS UNIDAS DEL RIO DE LA PLATA, drum, crossed cannons and flags and cannonballs below, flora ornament above, all within wreath. Edge: LA PATRIA Y LA UNION. VIVA LA RELIGION. General Manuel Belgrano's defeat of the royalist troops at the Battle of Salta, February 20, 1813 ensured Argentine control over most of the northern territories of the former Viceroyalty of the Rio de la Plata. According to Cunietti, this medal was ordered to be minted by General Belgrano during his stay in Potosí. Very rare. Lavender-gray with amber and blue highlights. Extremely Fine.
