SCHOOL OF SPERANDIO
Tito Vespasiano Strozzi (1424-1505). Rectangular plaquette. A restitutional cast, late 15th Century. Bronze, 182 x 129mm. High-relief bust right wearing a soft, rounded cap and pleated gown; TITVS.STROCIVS below. A poet at the Este court in Ferrera, Strozzi, known for his humanistic compositions in Latin and Italian sonnets, figures as an interlocutor in Angelo Decembrio's "De politia litteraria". Hill Corpus 125, 125 d and e, examples in Turin with similar inscription; Salton 29 (ex Count Trivulzio Collection). Hill claims this for the Ferrarese School, but Salton refutes this attribution. There are about 11 recorded examples.
