Alexander Etruscus -- Alessandro Cinuzzi (1458-1474). Commemorative Medal on His Death, Rome 1474. Bronze, 119mm. ALEXANDER.ETRVSCVS.ADOLESCENTIAE.PRINCEPS, Head left of the sitter, the page -- celebrated in homosexual circles for his beauty - who was attached to the court of the pope's nephew Girolamo Riario - as related in Ulrich Pfisterer's Lysippus und seine Freunde (2008), see also Stephen J. Campbell's review of this in the Art Bulletin 2011. Reverse: HERMES.FLAVIVS.APOLLINI.SVO.CONSECRAVIT, Within a wreath, Pegasos leaping left, a putto holding his mane, a swan sitting on his hindquarters. Hill 220; Toderi-Vannel 337. Wesche suggests that de Bonis and Lysippus the Younger are one and the same. The model for this later cast was the specimen sold at Numismatica Ars Classica, Nov. 7, 2009, lot 537 (and again at Numismatica Asta Sale 76, April 5, 2020, lot 811). Extremely Fine.
