Ecuador. 2 Reales, 1822 P O. Pasto. Carlos IV bust right; FERDND.7.D.G.ET.CONST., rev. Crowned Arms flanked by Pillars. Although traditionally assigned to Popayán in Colombia, recent evidence supports the belief that the "P" mintmark is for Pasto, Ecuador. During the War of Independence, the Royalists transported minting equipment from Popayán to Pasto, where they used it to strike these coins. This type is Ecuador's first coin and its only Colonial type. Crude. Fine-About Very Fine.
