Mexico. Revolutionary. Sinaloa. Estado Libre y Soberano de Sinaloa. Quintet of Frank Miller - Tucson Hoard 50 Centavos, Consecutively Numbered. 1915. P-S1042. Portraits of Juarez left and Madero right. In early August 1918, Apolonia Valdez, a member of Pancho Villa's army rode into Tucson Arizona with 2,000 silver pesos to buy supplies for a raid on Nogales. He also carried with him 10,000 Pesos in currency - all crisp Sinaloa 50 Centavos, consecutively numbered. He gave these notes to J. Frank Miller a friend of Villa's, who collected historical paper money. Because of Villa's raid on Columbus, New Mexico and his poor relations with the U.S., Miller thought it prudent to bury the notes in the basement of his Tucson home. It remained hidden there for 74 years. In 1994, Miller's great, great nephew unearthed the hoard. The notes are framed with a CoA and printed story of the Tucson Hoard, 17 ¼ x 13" . Crisp Uncirculated.
