1936 Collier Trophy Award: Letter from aviation pioneer James H. Doolittle to the Collier Trophy Committee proposing Shell Petroleum be considered as the 1936 awardee. One-page typed on Shell Petroleum Corporation letterhead, St. Louis, April 5, 1937. Doolittle points out to the Committee that Shell, as a result of several years of pioneer research, made new high octane aviation gasolines commercially available in 1936, and that "the introduction of high octane fuels represent "the greatest achievement of aviation in America"". Thus, he says, Shell would like to submit a brief for the Award. Doolittle signs below in black as Aviation Manager for Shell. Copy of response attached. Minor rust mark from paperclip in margin, staplehole top left. Fine.
