Group of Official Mackay Trophy Correspondence and photos, 1926-1935. Includes: *) Feb. 1, 1926 letter from Brig. General James E. Fechet, Acting Chief of Air Service to NAA President Porter Adams. One page typed on War Dept. letterhead; Fechet notes he is enclosing a copy of a communication regarding the award of the Mackay Trophy (not included) and inquires if the NAA will communicate with the War Dept. so that the Mackay Trophy can be presented at the same time as that of the Pulitzer Trophy and the Schneider Cup. He signs in black below; *) 1931 Recipient - First Air Division (for flawless air exercises). One-page, typed letter from its commander Brig. Gen. Benjamin D. Foulois to NAA President Hiram Bingham. August 17, 1932, War Department letterhead: Foulois thanks Bingham for his congratulatory letter on winning the Mackay Trophy and credits the officers and enlisted men of the First air Division. He signs "B.D. Foulois" below in black; *) 1932 Recipient - 11th Bombardment Squadron of March Field, CA. 7 x 5" B&W Photos (2). On-field presentation ceremony, May 26, 1933; Commanding Officer 1st Lieutenant Charles H Howard holding the trophy (inked upper right "Mackay Trophy"). The squadron won the trophy that year for its air relief mission to snowbound Navajo and Hopi Indians; *) 1934 Awardee. One-page letter with attachments from Secretary of War George T. Dern to NAA President William G. McAdoo recommending that the 1934 Mackay be awarded to Lieut. Col. Henry H. Arnold, C.O. of the July 19-August 20, 1934 US Army Alaskan Flight of 10 B-10 Bombers. Dern signs in black below. Rust stain at top from attached paperclip; also copies of recommendation that Capt. A.F. Hegenberger be awarded the Trophy that year. Very Good-Fine.
