England. Charles II (1660-1685). Royal Oak 1651 Memorial Engraved Medallion. Ca. 1660. Silver, 26.3mm. Depiction of the Royal Oak in Boscobel Wood in which the future Charles II hid to escape the Roundheads after the Battle of Worcester, rev. Ten-line legend: Sep. 6 1651 K. Cha: 2 after his defeat at Wor. was hid in an Oak-Tree in Boscobel Wood by Rd. Pendrill alias Trusty Did great Grandfather to WILLm. PENDRILL at Royal Oak in WORCESTER. Medallion on stem affixed to miniature oak stave. After the restoration in 1660, Charles II granted annuities to the Penderels for their services. These annuities are still paid to their descendants to this day. Rare. Fine.
