Germany. Ferdinand von Richthofen Memorial Medal, 1905. Bronze, 60mm. By Martin Schauss. His bust ¾ right, rev. Tortoise statuary holding up a plinth inscribed CHINA before the Great Wall. Uncle of WWI flying ace Manfred von Richthofen, the "Red Baron", traveler, geographer and scientist Baron Ferdinand Freiherr von Richthofen (1833-1905) published important scientific studies of China. He also coined the term "Silk Road". Extremely Fine.
