Western Bank Note. EF. Irénée du Pont was president of DuPont from 1919 to 1925. He was in charge of DuPont when eight workers were fatally poisoned with tetraethyl lead, to which he responded that there were "...slight difficulties..." within the company. In 1958, he retired from the board of directors of DuPont.
