Denis, Maurice (1870-1943). French painter and writer heavily influenced by Gauguin, contributed to the foundations of cubism and abstract art. Carte-Letter in pencil in his hand, affixed with stamp hinges to an 8 ½" x 11" sheet of paper. 4 ½" x 3." No date. Postmarked "Louveciennes." To Mademoiselle Jeanne Baudot (perhaps the student of Pierre-August Renoir and the subject of Portrait of Jeanne Baudot and three-quarter face [1896] by Pierre-Auguste Renoir). In French, he accepts an invitation, but asks to be forgiven if he arrives late.
