February 10, 1881. 21 West 20th St., New York. To Mr. Brooks. "I have given full consideration to the proposal you made to me at our recent conversation at this office concerning which Governor Dorsheiner spoke further with me yesterday. No doubt there is much to recommend your suggestion & personally I feel inclined towards it but upon mature reflection I am forced to the opinion that it is best for me to adhere to my rule and not enter upon pecuniary interests outside our regular business. Yours very truly, W W Astor."
