Nelson, Lord Horatio (1758-1805). British naval hero. Autograph Letter Signed, 4 full pp., 4to. Amazon, October 14, 1801. To Lady Hamilton. With franked and postmarked integral address-leaf. Some fold splits and minor edge tears. There are small pieces missing from the blank panel near the wax seals. Magnificent letter of Lord Nelson to his Lady Hamilton. He starts the letter: "My Dearest Friend" and then goes on to discuss Sir Thomas. "I believe the fault is all his, and he ought to have recollected that I got him the medal of the Nile. Who upheld him when he would have sunk under grief and mortification? Who placed him in such a situation in the Kingdom of Naples, that he got by my public letters, titles, the Colonelcy of Marines, diamond boxes, from the King of Naples? ... Nelson, that Nelson that he now Lords it over. So much for gratitude. I forgive him, but, by God, I shall not forget it. He enjoys showing his power over me. Never mind; all together it will shorten my days …Your kind letters are just come, and have given me great comfort. Pray tell Sir William that if I can I will write to him this day … I rejoice at your occupation. Live pretty, and keep a pig … You may rely on a visit. Ever My Dear friend your affectionate Nelson & Bronte." A rare opportunity for any passionate collector of Lord Nelson - Lady Hamilton letters.
