James, Henry (1843-1916) Although Henry James was an American, most of his writing career was spent in Britain. His three most important novels, "The Wings of the Dove", "The Ambassadors", and "The Golden Bowl", point out the contrast in life styles in Britain and America. ALS, 4to. Lamb House, Rye, Sussex. Signed "Your fond old uncle!" Lamb House, Rye, Sussex. To William James, Jr., his favorite nephew. An annotation in blue ink at the top states "To WT, Jr. in Paris 1907." "Just 3 words literally tonight … having been sharply ill with the grippe, ear abscess, and not quite ready her (Mrs. Wharton)…But I write you again in a day or two & probably shall be very glad if you'll meet me at the Gate…We shall have so much to talk about, and though very busy still' I'm now most impatient for our meeting! But 'wires' galore shall you have from your fond old Uncle!"

William later stayed with his uncle before going on to Cambridge to study medicine.
