Hughes, Thomas (1822-1896). British novelist. Best known as the author of "Tom Brown's School Days". ALS, 2 pages, 8vo. Affington House, Chester. 1887. Hughes wants to know "…how you can train up good citizens in schools in which religious teaching is forbidden, and you don't even begin the work of the day with the Lord's Prayer…." The first page is lightly age toned and has a small stain at the top.
