He became famous as the author of "Far From the Madding Crowd", "Tess of the d'Urbervilles" and "Jude the Obscure". ALS, 8vo. Max Gate, Dorchester. Nov. 14, 1907. To publisher Henry Strowde, Hodder & Stoughton, giving permission to use "…a passage from my novel The Trumpet Major (pp. 301 to 322) in your Oxford Readers…" A single horizontal fold, and some light soiling, otherwise very fine.
