Beecher, Henry Ward (1813-1887). Impressive panel photograph. From the studio of Garner & Company, 276-278 Fulton Street, Brooklyn, New York. A rarely encountered image of Beecher seated on a tree stump holding his hat in his left hand. 7 1/2" x 12 3/4"."

Beecher, a confirmed abolitionist and a champion of women's voting rights, was a powerful and convincing speaker. He was Pastor of the Plymouth Congregational Church in Brooklyn from 1847 until his death in 1887. A charge of adultery (resulting in a hung jury) overshadowed his last years. Some wear at the edges, but not effecting the photograph.

From the collection of Diana Herzog.
