France. Napoleonic. Complete 19th Century Boxed set of Bronzed Lead-filled Cliches by Andrieu. On the first plush framed page are six 68mm pieces: * Napoleon, Emperor 1804, * Battle of Marengo 1800, * Josephine Empress and Queen 1805, * Passage of the Great St. Bernard 1800, * Marie-Louise, Imperatrice 1810, and * Napoleon - Emperor and King 1805. At the center are two 85mm cliches -- * Arrival of the King in Paris 1789, and * Storming of the Bastille 1789. On the second display page are a pair of massive 141mm cliches: * Marriage of the Emperor of Marie-Louise, Paris 1810, * Napoleon I 1810. Claret-red covers with ornate outer border, Imperial Arms in gold on front with fancy gold border. On the spine "NAPOLEON MEDALS" four Imperial eagles and "ANDRIEU" in gold. The noted engraver Bertrand Andrieu (1761-1822), responsible for a good many Napoleonic medals, had a shop in Paris where cliches were sold. They could be purchased in individual frames or in more elaborate book-like framed sets. Three of the pieces on the first page with oval glass guards. Spine cracked and pages separated as is latch panel and side panel, scuffs on cover. Gold stencil work still intact and vibrant. The medals About Uncirculated. Complete sets in their original book-like cases are difficult to find.
