Italy. Benedetto de'Pasti, canon of Verona, ca. 1453-1456. Copper. 88.5 mm. By the Veronese sculptor and medalist, Matteo di Andrea de'Pasti (1420-1467/8). A fairly sharp, old cast after a holed original. Bust left of the Veronese canon, brother of the medalist; BENEDICTVS DEPASTIS, C(anon) V(eronensis) below bust, rev. Within a cabled circle: Archer firing arrows at rocks; MATTHEVS DE PASTI. Vide: Armand, 1883-7, vol. I, p.23, 27; Hill 160, Pasini p. 150-156. Dark olive-brown, spot of deposits on canon's neck.
