The Historically Important Warrant Appointing Sir John French Lord Lieutenant of Ireland
Warrant declaring 'The Right Honourable John Denton Pinkstone, Viscount French, K.P., G.C.B., O.M., G.C.V.O., K.C.M.G., Field Marshal, Lieutenant-General and General Governor of that part of the United Kingdom called Ireland', given by the King's Most Excellent Majesty in Council at the Court of Windsor Castle, 7th May, 1918, signed 'Almeric FitzRoy', with seal attached, good very fine, and a rare document relating to Ireland's Struggle for Independence
Field Marshal the Rt. Hon. John Denton Pinkstone French, 1st Earl of Ypres, K.P., G.C.B., O.M., G.C.V.O., K.C.M.G. was appointed Lord Lieutenant of Ireland on the 7th May 1918, accepting the post on the condition that it was as a 'Military Viceroy at the Head of a Quasi-Military Government', and served through much of the struggle for Ireland's Independence. He resigned on the 30th April 1921.
Sir Almeric William FitzRoy, K.C.B., K.C.V.O. (1851-1935), served as Clerk of the Privy Council, 1898-1923.
